If you recall a while back I wrote about pawn shops, and why i love them (read here) well my point stands again.
I was cruising on my new friend kijiji (www.kijiji.com) its like ebay, but not an auction, just a list of for sale items…. and I found a video camera… Sony DCR VX-1000 on there for $550… so I sent an email, and it was actually a pawn shop who placed the ad… so I went there today to have a look.. its really nice (the camera) and in really good shape… so I said to the guy “550.. you pretty firm on that” thinking he might go down to 500…and he said “well, I really just want to get rid of it, we’ve had it here for 2 months and its costing us money having it here, so I’ll take 400 for it” SOLD… I bought it right away because I had checked them out on ebay, and found that used they were going for 1500-2000 bucks, so even 550 would have been a deal (or maybe a steal, I’m not sure) then I went to the sony store, so I could find out where I could get a manual, and see what they people thought of my new purchase… they were very helpful.. I explained that I got it at a pawn shop and was just looking for info… the gu gave me lots of stuff on the camera… then he said… “do you mind me asking what you paid for it” i said, “$400″ his eyes bugged out of his head and he swore…. it was kind of funny.. then he took me to his computer and showed me what it was worth if I went in there today and wanted to buy the camera from them at wholesale price…. 400??? nope…. 800… Nah… 1500.. not even close…3000??? nope higher… $7000… YES thats right… I just bought a 7000 dollar camera for 400 bucks… and thats why I love pawn shops…
